“Back to our Cedar Roots” Initiative

Beirut, November 22, 2021: Lebanon is facing the most difficult challenge in its modern history with a collapse of trust in its values, its institutions and its future leading to massive emigration, unemployment, escalating poverty and loss of hope. Banque BEMO, through its recently launched initiative “Back to our Cedar roots”, aims at restoring pride in what Lebanon stands for and reinforcing the sense of belonging of people of Lebanese origin. It consists of putting in the name of each of 100 persons among the enlisted candidates a newly planted cedar tree.

The draw took place on November 22, Independence Day at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport.

In addition to the above mentioned objectives, Banque BEMO wanted to cast the attention on the unfairness suffered by Lebanese women who are unable to pass their Lebanese nationality to their children. Therefore, the offering is opened primarily to persons of Lebanese origin but whose father is not Lebanese. Through this, Banque BEMO stands firm on its support to Lebanese women and the necessity of them getting their full rights.

His Excellency the Minister of Tourism Mr. Walid Nassar, the Brazilian ambassador to Lebanon Mr. Hermano Telles Ribeiro, the Manager of Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport and the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation Eng. Fadi El Hassan, Mr. Georges El Gharib executive vice president of La Libanaise des Jeux, Mr. Rami Kozhaya president of Jouzour Loubnan and the Artist Mr. Hady Sy attended the ceremony.

Also, the candidates joined the ceremony through the direct live streaming of the event on Banque BEMO social media accounts.

During the ceremony Banque BEMO Chairman of the Board Dr. Riad Obegi, addressed the audience saying, “Lebanon is for everyone who has roots in the country, it is a message and not only a country, and this message is one of openness and generosity. If we are all committed to ethics, solidarity and generosity, this crisis will allow our nation to become better, one of the best in the world.”

After the speeches, the draw took place, the 100 lucky winners received a confirmation email. This initiative was in partnership with “Jouzour Loubnan”. Once again, Banque BEMO stands firm with its promise : “2021 is the year of Faith”.
