Protesters attacked the branches of the Banque du Liban in Tripoli in northern Lebanon and Saïda in southern Lebanon.

In Tripoli as in Saïda, the protesters succeeded in forcing the main door of the establishment before the Lebanese Army deploys there in order to prevent them from entering the establishment.

A number of demonstrators also attacked the Seraglio in Tripoli and tried to set it on fire.

In Saida, demonstrators also attacked a shopping center in order to force traders to close their respective establishments.

The protests come as the value of the Lebanese Pound sharply deteriorated against the dollar on Saturday, hitting its all-time low of 18,000 Lebanese Pounds per dollar before declining somewhat to parity of 17,500 LL / USD.

The Lebanese pound has now lost 94% of its value against the dollar in less than 2 years, causing a deterioration in the purchasing power of a large part of the population – 75% according to some estimates – who now live in- below the poverty line.
