The ABL condemned what it described as an act of aggression committed by activists of a local NGO against the Lebanese-Swiss Bank yesterday in Hamra, and called on banks in Lebanese territory to close their doors this Tuesday, June 29 in solidarity with the BLS, calling for the prosecution of any individual involved in this storming.
In details, depositors of the NGO “Banin Charity Association” wanted transfers in dollars to be made abroad in order to cover the medical costs of some of their patients. Due to bank restrictions since October 2019 preventing Lebanese depositors from making money transfers abroad, Banin members had to put pressure on bank employees, which resulted in clashes within the establishment.
According to the Bank and ISP’s version, these activists were demanding $ 200,000 in cash, which is why they stormed the BLS branch in Hamra. This incident left three injured in the ranks of BLS employees.
