The Lebanese authorities indicate deploring 29 deaths following complications induced by COVID19 and 642 new cases in the last 24 hours, figures to be taken with caution due to the closure of many laboratories this weekend.
However, this is the lowest number of new infections in several months, with in particular the drop in the ratio of positive tests for the virus.
Towards a new vaccination campaign during the summer
The outgoing Minister of Health indicated that a new vaccination campaign will take place during the summer during a press conference. It will now be a question of going to people wishing to be vaccinated and not asking them to go to dedicated centers.
According to Hassan Diab, this will involve vaccinating 5,000 people per day. This campaign should be implemented from June and aims to achieve mass immunity among the population.
“Many citizens could not register on the platform for various reasons and need help, and the popularity of this platform is by residents in Lebanon of refugees and displaced people of different nationalities are still very weak, and it is the duty of the Ministry of Public Health to interact with its partners to ensure the protection of all and implement its strategy which aims to achieve vaccination as soon as possible “, notes the Minister.
Thus, one million doses of Pfizer-type vaccines and half a million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine should reach Lebanon by June, says Hamad Hassan, to which will be added the doses of Sputnik and Sinopharm vaccines ordered by the private sector.
Commenting on the latest figures, the minister considered them encouraging, however emphasizing the danger that is still present, especially during February days and in places of worship.
