The Attorney General of the Mount Lebanon Court of Appeal, Judge Ghada Aoun indirectly responded to Prime Minister Najib Mikati who had ruled out any resignation of the Governor of the Banque du Liban, recalling that Riad Salamé was not only accused of money laundering in Switzerland but also speculation against the Lebanese pound and illegal financial transfers to Lebanon.

“There is evidence, testimonies and figures from Switzerland, which cannot be ignored”, judges the magistrate.

She thus estimates that the governor of the Bank of Lebanon would thus have facilitated the transfer of 5 billion dollars abroad in spite of the establishment by the Association of Banks of Lebanon of an informal control of the capital.

The first case was for the offense of obstructing pound speculation with a bank. The second case for the offense of allowing the transfer of 5 billion dollars in cash abroad
