Born in Beirut in 1971, Marie Claude Najm is the Minister of Justice of the Diab Government.
Marie-Claude Najm, an associate of the French Faculty of Law, is a professor in the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, president of the Private Law Section, and director of the Centre for the Study of The Rights of the Arab World (CEDROMA). Marie-Claude Najm taught for several years as a visiting professor at the University of Pantheon-Assas (Paris II) and at the Pantheon-Sorbonne University (Paris I).
She is also a lawyer at the Beirut Bar, conducting legal consulting activities. Born in Beirut on April 6, 1971, Marie-Claude Najm holds a bachelor’s degree in Lebanese law and a graduate degree in private law from Saint Joseph University in Beirut, as well as a doctorate in private international law from Pantheon-Assas University (Paris II).
His publications focus on conflicts of laws and jurisdictions, particularly in pluralistic legal systems. Marie-Claude Najm has participated in many Lebanese civil society initiatives. She was a founding and active member of the “Khalass!” campaign, launched in 2007 to find a peaceful and binding solution to the political impasse of the time, and recently engaged in the A-confessional popular intifada demanding a profound change in the political culture in Lebanon.
On the family level, Marie-Claude Najm is married to Dr. Daniel Kobeh, and has a daughter, Sarah-Marie, born in 2010.
Marie Claude Najm resigned on 10 August 2020 following the explosion on 4 August of a deposit of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored inside the port of Beirut.
