The sky of the Bekaa Valley is currently invaded by grasshoppers and locusts coming via Syria, in particular at the level of the localities of Brital, Deir el Ahmar, Al Taiba, Hazin, reaching as far as the localities of Bednayel and Tamnin, indicates the The Minister of Agriculture.

Interministerial teams made up of officials from the Ministry of Agriculture supported by helicopters from the Lebanese Army are desperately trying to overcome these swarms by using pesticides. Teams in charge of monitoring the progress of the grasshoppers have also been set up, said the same press release.

As a reminder, locusts appeared at the end of last week, carried by the winds from the Horn of Africa, passing through Saudi Arabia then crossing Jordan and Syria. They could thus further worsen the current situation of the Land of the Cedars, already severely impacted by the economic crisis and the surrounding countries.
