The investigation into the explosion in the port of Beirut was suspended for the 4th time following the appeal presented by the former ministers and current deputies Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zoaiter following an appeal presented to the civil cassation court chaired by the judge Naji Eid.

The former ministers of finance and public works are therefore asking not only for the withdrawal of Judge Tarek Bitar, in charge of the investigation, but also Judge Nassib Elia, of the Court of Cassation who had previously rejected their appeals, considering himself incompetent. to rule on this critical issue, barely 2 weeks ago.

De facto, this procedure suspends the current procedures, only two weeks.

This announcement comes as the Amal movement is reportedly seeking to organize an extraordinary parliamentary session following the current session in order to extend the immunity granted to the 2 deputies close to the president of the chamber Nabih Berri. Some sources indicate that Nabih Berri would thus consider himself personally targeted by the investigation while the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun but also Prime Minister Najib Mikati consider necessary the non-interference of political parties within the judicial system. For its part, the Amal movement, with the support of Hezbollah, has been boycotting meetings of the Council of Ministers since the beginning of November, demanding the resignation of Judge Tarek Bitar. This paralysis threatens today the negotiations to be carried out with the International Monetary Fund with a view to obtaining the economic and financial assistance necessary to overcome the serious crisis which the Country of the Cedars is going through.
