The President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, denounced, in the columns of the daily newspaper of the Security Forces, that the legislative elections scheduled for 2022 will take place on time.

He also reiterated his will “until the last moment of my constitutional mandate” to restore the Lebanese state, believing that the leaders and the confessional system have failed in the construction of the state. The population is called upon to set up “a new political class which will carry out the modern civil state” and to implement the Lebanese constitution.

The problem, believes the President of the Republic, lies in the interpretation of the Lebanese constitution.

“We had hoped that the Constitutional Council would provide this interpretation”, underlines the head of state who notes that political practice has shown the existence of a gap in the implementation of the constitution, in particular the absence of controls and deadlines for various constitutional practices, the most striking of which is the deadline for forming the government, and part of the powers of the President of the Republic.

The head of state felt he had made all the necessary efforts to form a new government, but the prime minister did not respect the national pact, he accuses, calling on France and Emmanuel Macron to act as an intermediary.

General Aoun also accused the perpetrators of the current collapse “to seek impunity”. He underlined the advances already made under his mandate despite the current political and economic circumstances, such as the adoption of a new electoral law, the launch of the exploration of the wealth of maritime economic zones or the elimination of terrorist networks. and the adoption of a budget for the 2 previous years. He also reiterated his desire to see the good principles of public governance put in place.

He thus attacked the Prime Minister designate Saad Hariri, who would not have taken into account in the process of drawing up the principle of national partnership stipulated in the national agreement document and in particular article 53 of the constitution.

“The corrupt system is coherent and entrenched, political,” he laments, before announcing that legislative and municipal elections will be held on time in 2022 and calling for the return of Syrian refugees to Syria.

Regarding the forensic audit of the Banque du Liban, he underlines that the latter has still not answered a number of questions from the Alvarez & Marsal firm. This audit will take place, however, because it is the first element of the French initiative and a fundamental requirement of the international community.
