After the outcry provoked by the publication on social networks of the destruction of 20 tons of dairy products, one of the partners of the distribution company of Nestlé in Lebanon, Roger Megerdichian, published a statement via the National Agency of ” Information concerning the destruction of products that have reached the expiration date in 2018, 2019 or early 2020, i.e. before the implementation of the Banque du Liban subsidy program.

The latter specifies that this destruction was carried out on June 14, 2021 in an official manner and under the supervision of local authorities including the Council for Development and Reconstruction and the Ministry of Finance and in accordance with Lebanese law.

The goods could not be previously destroyed due to the containment measures decided upon following the COVID19 epidemic.

The publication of photographs on social media was the source of a major wave of outrage, with infant milk now unavailable for sale due to the economic crisis currently in Lebanon after the Banque du Liban is now struggling to grant the lines of credit necessary to allow the importation, for lack of available monetary reserves which are practically exhausted.
