The European Union and Al Madina Theatre launched tonight the 2nd edition of Lebanon's European Theatre Festival, under the patronage of Minister of Culture Mohamad Daoud. "Theatre matters" said Ralph Tarraf, Ambassador of the European Union to Lebanon, addressing the guests. "It's a platform that brings people together. It’s a place where dialogue, cultural exchange, free exchange of views, values and opinions happen. It’s a place where stories are told and remembered." The festival opened with the French play Place, by Tamara Al Saadi, in collaboration with L'Institut Français du Liban. Lebanon’s European Theatre Festival is taking place from 27 September to 12 October throughout the cultural venues of Beirut. It promotes the inter-cultural exchange between Europe and Lebanon and creates the opportunity for an exchange between theatre professionals. The workshops and side activities allow European and Lebanese artists to do networking, identify synergies in their work and develop projects together. The festival is the only European theatre festival in the Middle East and the Arab world. Lebanon’s European Theatre Festival is co-funded by the European Union and organised in collaboration with the embassies and cultural institutes of Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain and Romania. Tickets are available at Al Madina Theatre, Librairie Antoine and Antoine Ticketing. The full programme is available on Al Madina Theatre's website and the festival's event page on Facebook.
