The president of the bakers’ union of North Lebanon Tarek el Mir announced the imminent shortage of flour after exhaustion of current stocks due to the stop by the Bank of Lebanon of payment for flour imported into Lebanon. These stocks are already at their lowest.
At the same time, in the event of the lifting of subsidies from the Banque du Liban, the price of a packet of bread could reach 30,000 LL instead of a little over 10,000 LL currently, estimates the trade unionist.
This shortage could occur at the beginning of next year.
The union official therefore calls on the current authorities to speak up with the Governor of the Banque du Liban Riad Salamé and to take up the matter in order to find suitable solutions.
As a reminder, the Ministry of the Economy has already raised several times since the arrival to power of the Mikati III government in September, the price grid for packets of bread.
