Interior Minister of the Hassan Diab government, Mohammed Fahmi is a retired former Lebanese Army general, succeeding Raya el Hassan.
He was the director of the Lebanese Mine Action Center, and commander-in-chief of the Military Region of Mount Lebanon and the Department of Security of the Military Intelligence Services.
Close to former President Emile Lahoud, but also to the former director of the General Security Jamil Sayyed, born to An Egyptian father and Lebanese mother, he was reportedly naturalized Lebanese before joining the Lebanese army in 1978.
He also holds a degree from James Madison University (USA).
