For this weekend, we will also make a stop in the sad years 1989-1990. These years which have seen the worst battles, which have caused hundreds of deaths, which have shattered destinies… but above all, which have stolen and violated the childhood of all those who have witnessed these atrocities while at their age, they should have cared about much more leisurely and playful activities than a fratricidal war.
This situation suffered by the children of Lebanon in spite of themselves, aroused more than one reaction, in particular on the part of the artists, who were then upset by the innocence wounded by the guns and disfigured by fear. Alain Chelon, singer-songwriter from Marseilles, goes so far as to record an album whose title bears the name of the song he dedicates to the children of the land of the cedars and of the world “The child of Lebanon”.
Let’s listen to this song, read its words, and hope together that it will remain a memory from which we will finally be able to draw good lessons from it, a memory stuck to this sad episode in Lebanese history which, for once, would be very good not to repeat yourself.
He looks at me with eyes
Who have seen neither the blue of the sea
Nor that of the sky
They only saw fire and hell
In the land of war
He looks at me with eyes
that bring down mine
And I’m ashamed for them
For all those who slaughter life
In the name of one God
He’s a child
From Lebanon, or elsewhere
He’s a child
That I hold close to my heart
A scared child
He doesn’t even know the words
Who designate the flowers
Who talk about the birds
The only nests above his head
Are those of machine guns
He’s a child
From Lebanon, or elsewhere
He’s a child
That I hold close to my heart
A scared child
