The price of a packet of bread has increased, for the third time this year, from LL 2,750 to LL 3,250 per 960 gram packet, says the Ministry of the Economy. This information comes at a time when the Banque du Liban should soon announce the end of the subsidy program for the purchase of basic necessities, including the flour needed to make bread.
The Central Bank has reportedly already refused to continue financing sugar, another essential ingredient in the manufacture of bread, which would have led to the announcement of the current increase.
