The union of shipping agents estimated that the power outages could have dramatic consequences on the storage of refrigerated goods present in the port of Beirut. This would concern 500 containers containing drugs or food for a total value equivalent to several tens of millions of dollars.
This situation would have been induced by the absence of a director of the port facilities leading to an administrative paralysis and the stopping of the fuel orders necessary for the generators.
The union organization therefore calls on the outgoing Minister of Transport Michel Najjar to take the necessary decisions to secure an electricity supply, noting that the fuel still present is only sufficient until Wednesday.
