The Lebanese Banks Association decides to close its establishments tomorrow following “an attack” according to it targeting the local agency of the Libano-Swiss Bank in Hamra. As a reminder, depositors and members of an association had thus entered this branch to demand the payment of their deposits frozen since the establishment of informal capital controls in November 2019. Incidents thus took place and 2 employees of this establishment were injured in these clashes.

The press release

First, we condemn the attack and all forms of physical and moral violence against the employees of the Banque Libanaise Suisse and its innocent clients who were present at the scene of the accident, we denounce the acts of sabotage and degradation of files the bank in the hands of the attackers, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured colleagues who are currently in the hospitals.

Second, we call on the relevant judicial and security organs to prosecute the aggressors in accordance with the laws, and to provide all the conditions necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the Lebanese banking sector and the safety of its employees and customers.

Thirdly, all branches of operational banks will close in Lebanon tomorrow, Tuesday, June 29, 2021, in solidarity with the management and employees of Banque Libanaise Suisse and in protest against this condemned attack.
