After visiting the Jaj cedars or from Barouk , we therefore go to the most mythical forest in Lebanon, or the Cedars of God forest in North Lebanon.
This forest is located on the western slope of Mount Lebanon on Mount Makmel, between 1,900 and 2,050 m above sea level, east of the village of Bcharré. It is classified as a “forest reserve” and, with the valley of Qadisha which is close to it. It contains 375 trees, two of which are over 3000 years old and ten are over 1000 years old.
Already on the “red list” of “highly threatened” species of the International Union for the Preservation of Nature, the Cedars of Lebanon are today threatened by global warming. Indeed, the presence of seeds in the snow for more than 30 days is necessary for their germination. Other factors including increased heat can also threaten the tree.
