Prime Minister Najib Mikati indicates that he has signed the decree allowing the organization of legislative elections next May. This decree was previously signed by Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi last week and will still have to be signed by the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, to become functional.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister believed that the elections can rectify the political course, stressing that “we should not lose this opportunity”. He also estimated that his government will have to organize the poll on time, an allusion to international and local pressures which refuse any postponement of the elections.
