Armed men took to the streets of parts of Tripoli yesterday, shooting in the air and even throwing stones at Lebanese army soldiers after an unfounded rumor of the death of a young girl following a power failure.

The soldiers briefly withdrew from some areas, apparently to avoid a clash with the gunmen.

The latter also forced traders in certain neighborhoods such as those of Al Talé or Bab Tebanneh to close their stores to protest against the economic crisis suffered by the Land of the Cedars, a crisis described by the World Bank as one of the worst in the world since the mid-19th century.

This information comes as 20 people were injured this weekend within hours. Among them, 10 soldiers including 9 wounded following the explosion of a grenade thrown at them
