New episode in the indirect showdown between the public prosecutor Ghassan Oweidat – close to the prime minister designate Saad Hariri – and the prosecutor of Mount Lebanon, judge Ghada Aoun, who has the support of the Free Patriotic Current, a CPL youth activist Charbel Razzouk was arrested by the internal security forces on Tuesday evening after hanging a banner hostile to the public prosecutor.

The text of the banner thus questioned the latter on the fate of the various cases for which he was responsible and in particular concerning the Lebanese counterpart to the investigation relating to the accusations of illicit enrichment by the Governor of the Banque du Liban Riad Salamé, a another close to Saad Hariri.

Following this arrest, the young people of the movement gathered in front of the headquarters of the Internal Security Forces located in Ashrafieh to demand the release of Charbel Razzouk.

As a reminder, the internal security forces are often accused of being involved in arbitrary arrests since the events of October 2019. Several reports from local and international NGOs also accused the police of an act of torture.

This case also comes as the High Judicial Council indicates that it has received telephone threats against its members and the Attorney General of the Republic, without further details for the time being. An investigation is reportedly underway to determine the perpetrator.
