Anonymous LB indicates that denial of service or DDos attack operations are currently targeting certain government sites including the Banque du Liban overnight site or the Electricité du Liban (EDL) site which is currently slower than usual .
However, these attacks do not impact Internet users from Lebanon but rather those located abroad.
As a reminder, Lebanon is going through an economic crisis of phenomenal magnitude. The Banque du Liban is thus accused by a large part of the population of having squandered depositors’ money and of having taken measures in favor of the banks and their respective shareholders. As for the EDL, it would constitute one of the main items of public expenditure as the deficit and the public debt continue to widen despite the announcement of a state of default in April 2020.

More than 75% of the population would currently be below the poverty line, with less than 6 USD per day and unemployment would affect more than 40% of the working population. The Lebanese pound would have lost more than 94% of its value compared to early 2019 and prices would have increased by more than 140%, state statistics show.
No exit prospect appears for the moment after the Hassan Diab government resigned in August 2020 following the explosion of the port of Beirut. The Lebanese are still awaiting the resumption of negotiations with the IMF for which a new government is nevertheless necessary.
