The parliamentary commission in charge of telecoms is currently trying to find solutions to the problems posed by the financing of the public company Ogero.
Thus, according to its president, MP Hussein Hajj Hassan, the company has already spent 58 billion Lebanese pounds on fuel since the beginning of the year on the basis of its 2020 budget and for lack of a 2021 budget validated by the parliament.
Ogero is expected to spend an additional 58 billion pounds by the end of the year on fuel according to current projections if the exchange rate remains the same, which could translate into a deficit of 68 billion Lebanese pounds.

Also, the public company has still not received from the Bank of Lebanon 22 million dollars necessary for the purchase of the spare parts necessary for the repair of its telephone exchanges. At the current rate, this would represent 35 billion Lebanese pounds at the current rate.
For the time being, the director of Ogero would have also accused the governor of the Banque du Liban Riad Salamé of not having yet transferred the necessary sums also concerning the subscription to the IMAWE cable which connects the Land of the Cedars to the Internet, which could result in an interruption of this service.
Faced with this, MP Hajj Hassan specifies that a bill is currently being studied to resolve the situation. This would involve granting Ogero additional lines of credit through legislation.
