The Amal Movement tries to force the opening of an extraordinary session of parliament to pass in order to spare Ali Hassan Khalil

Members of the Amal movement are said to be circulating a petition to organize an extraordinary legislative session after the end of the current ordinary session, after an arrest warrant against MP Ali Hassan Khalil in the framework of the investigation into the explosion of the Port of Beirut has been transmitted to the internal security forces.

The objective of this petition would therefore be to extend the parliamentary immunity enjoyed by parliamentarians in order to escape arrest and appearance before Judge Tarek Bitar in charge of the investigation.

This information comes when the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, for his part refused to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session of parliament. For the president of the chamber, Nabih Berri, it is a question of forcing the head of state to proceed while the tug-of-war between the two and their respective parties is increasing, on the one hand the free patriotic current and the Amal movement.
