The Lebanese Ministry of Health has released a damning toll of the recent Israeli strikes on Lebanese territory, which occurred on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. These strikes claimed the lives of 36 people and injured more than 150 others across several regions of the country. This new toll comes on top of the heavy loss of life since the start of the Israeli offensive against Lebanon, bringing the total number of martyrs to 2,119 and the number of wounded to 10,019.
Regional Casualty Details:
- South Lebanon (Nabatieh):
The South and Nabatieh, areas under intense Israeli bombardment, were the most heavily affected. On that day, 15 martyrs were recorded in these areas and 85 other people were injured, including in attacks on residential areas. - Bekaa :
The Bekaa region has also paid a heavy price, with 15 martyrs and 36 wounded in the bombings, dealing a further blow to this area already weakened by the war. - Mount Lebanon and Beirut :
In Beirut, 20 people were injured in Israeli attacks that hit areas near the southern suburbs, without causing any deaths on that day. The proximity of these areas to the Rafik Hariri International Airport continues to be a matter of serious concern. - Baalbek-Hermel :
The Baalbek-Hermel region recorded one death and one person wounded, still under Israeli strikes that also target Lebanon’s vital infrastructure.
A toll that continues to rise
According to the latest figures released by the Lebanese Ministry of Health via Platform X, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression, the total toll now stands at 2,119 martyrs and 10,019 wounded. This escalation of violence continues to wreak havoc, and Lebanon is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
The Lebanese government, backed by international calls for de-escalation, is trying to keep the country’s vital infrastructure, including Beirut International Airport and border crossings such as Masnaa, open, despite recurrent Israeli shelling nearby.
