The Ministry of the Economy has published a new price list for the package of bread.
Now the price of the 345 gram packet of bread will cost 6,000 LL, the 835 gram package will cost 10,000 LL, and the 1,050 gram package will cost 12,000 LL.
The news comes as bakers warned a few days ago of a possible shortage of bread, believing that current stocks could only meet one month of demand. In addition, they believed that production costs had increased in particular because of the rise in fuel prices.

The news comes as the Lebanese pound has lost almost 95% of its value against the dollar. Thus, the minimum wage which, two years ago, was equivalent to 450 USD, is now less than 20 USD per month. More than 82% of the population is now living below the poverty line.
